Hi, I'm Pascal — a rising senior at UT Austin who's passionate about working with people to solve complex engineering problems. I have experience finding efficient solutions to tough challenges by steering the people and process behind them.
Background
I'm a current Mechanical Engineering Honors student at UT Austin, with a minor in International Business and a Smart Cities Certificate.
Throughout my career, I've focused on building strong technical fundamentals in mechanical engineering — starting with applied research in environmental sensors and data analytics, then moving into materials research at UT and HVAC work as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Arup. That experience pushed me to think bigger: not just mechanical design and output, but manufacturability, cost, and the resources behind turning an idea into reality. That systems-level thinking, combined with my experience balancing people and stakeholders, led me to an EPM internship at Apple on the iPad program.
Throughout my industry experience, I've developed AI tools with Microsoft Copilot and Claude Code to compress the engineering design cycle in novel ways. I love sitting down with engineers, mapping how a workflow runs end to end, then building tools around that understanding to cut iteration time and get from concept to validated output faster, without losing the judgment that made the process work in the first place.
Outside of work I'm always outdoors — hiking, running, sailing, camping, backpacking, traveling, you name it. I love sharing that with others: helping plan social and service events for my fraternity, connecting exchange students and newcomers to the outdoors through my job at UT's Gregory Gym, and competing and traveling with the UT sailing team.

Engineering Program Management Intern — Apple
Served as Engineering Program Management Intern on Apple's iPad program, coordinating schedule, design, and vendor workstreams across engineering, supply chain, and cross-functional teams. Applied schedule-compression levers — parallel vendor testing, qualification by similarity, accelerated testing/shipping cadences — to surface validation data earlier in the design cycle. Built AI tools, including Claude Code skills, agents, and dashboards, to turn recurring EPM scheduling fixes into reusable tools other program managers could adopt directly. Diagnosed and resolved yield issues with an underperforming vendor and qualified a backup vendor to keep the program on schedule.

Mechanical Engineering Intern — Arup
Delivered HVAC load calculations and Revit/Bluebeam models across regional projects in Northern California and Oregon, including a large-scale hospital campus, ensuring code-compliant AHU sizing. Built AI workflows to classify space types and automate coil tagging, feeding a companywide AI-adoption initiative. Audited chilled water piping and VAV/FCU connections, resolving design discrepancies ahead of construction.

Advised a client organization through structured stakeholder interviews to diagnose operational and governance gaps. Redesigned the leadership structure into specialized, accountable roles with a two-year succession track, backed by standard operating procedures covering procurement, training, facilities, and operations. Mentored incoming leadership through the transition to establish long-term self-sufficiency.

Managed chapter operations and a multi-state administrative team, aligning recruitment strategy to run the most efficient rush cycle to date. Oversaw the annual budget — negotiating contracts, reimbursements, and event funding — while balancing logistics against long-term community goals.

Founded and led a robotics organization in Bellevue, WA, scaling budget, staffing, and facility footprint to become the largest of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Built and ran a cross-team mentoring program in CAD and the Engineering Design Process, helping teams advance to the world championship.

Team Lead — Exothermic Robotics
Served as lead engineer for design and build on a VEX Robotics Competition team, designing and documenting multiple robots each year — including flywheels, transmissions, and passive/active scoring mechanisms — to interact with game elements and other robots. Drove aggressive iterative design changes and made data-driven design decisions to push the team to competition success.
Research & Projects
Thermal Energy Storage Modeling — Research Assistant, Andrew Fix Lab, UT Austin
Developed a MATLAB model simulating heat flux and thermal energy storage in building insulation material, using a time-dependent thermal resistance network to capture material phase-change behavior (melting/freezing) at 1s timestep resolution. Built a modular data pipeline to import historical weather data (NREL) and PCM material properties from Excel, enabling rapid comparison across multiple PCMs and climate conditions using vectorized MATLAB arrays. Extended the model to incorporate time-variable energy pricing (ERCOT TVP data), quantifying both energy and cost impacts of PCM insulation — finding that top-performing PCMs (e.g., RT25) reduced energy use by ~15% and cost by ~18% versus standard insulation, while shifting peak heat flux later in the day to better align with off-peak pricing.
RC Car — Final Project, ME344 Machine Elements
Engineered a 4-wheel RC racecar with a 4-person team — laser-cut plywood chassis, Ackermann steering, 3:1 rear-wheel-drive powertrain — for under $50. Owned powertrain and chassis mounting, resolving axle-slip and steering-linkage interference under deadline pressure. Hit all performance targets, clocking 21 seconds for 3 laps at the final race.
Urban Heat Island Effect in Austin, TX — Literature Review, BDP 319 Smart Cities
Wrote a literature review synthesizing global research on urban vegetation loss and rising heat, then applied it to a data-driven case study of Austin. Analyzed local temperature and land-cover trends alongside the city's heat-mitigation policy to evaluate how well its sustainability plans actually address the problem.
Smart Shade — Personal Project
Built a smart shade system from scratch, controlling a DC motor and pulley via Alexa voice commands. Developed a custom Python-based Alexa Skill on AWS Lambda that routed commands to a Raspberry Pi, which coordinated with an Arduino driving the motor. Fixed motor positioning accuracy issues for reliable, repeatable shade movement.
VOC Wildfire Detection Prototype — Research Assistant, Tanya Hutter Lab, UT Austin
Worked in a 3-person team building a multi-sensor VOC wildfire detector, proposing the carbon monoxide sensing approach that became core to the final design. Wired, soldered, and debugged I2C connections to get both the metal-oxide VOC sensor and CO sensor fully responsive on a Raspberry Pi 4.
